All The Cool Girls Get Fired

Love this new book “All the cool girls get fired” by Laura Brown (former InStyle) and Kristina O’Neill (former WSJ) - and I am honored to have a quote in it too!

A book like this is necessary on the market, and to my knowledge has not existed before. It is full of practical advice and stories from the authors, as well as other women from Oprah to Katie Couric. Many of us will experience layoffs, firings, downsizing, etc in our career, and feelings can run from fear to shame to anger, to what I hope is ultimately a journey to realigning with what you want and and how you want to spend your time and talent. Just remember that YOU are SO much bigger than any one job, and I can’t wait to see what many of you do next.

Out now!

Grabbed my copy early all the way in Barcelona

First of all, for all of you searching for your next role, I see you, and I want to acknowledge how insane this job market is. I try to post new opportunities here and offer time to speak with people, but the truth is that too many at all levels are struggling and the unemployment numbers are mis/underreported in a system massively shifting. It should be about our network and community rising up to help each other, so let’s do more of that. It is not about hustle or talent…the job market has changed, careers have changed, forever. The old rules no longer apply so block out bad advice or comments from people who really don’t understand.

I was just reading that nearly 100K Media professionals have been laid off since the start of 2022 (40K in LA county alone), and another 500K jobs have been eliminated in Big Tech. It’s rough out there, and I also recommend this post by Evan Shapiro who has spoken about this for years, and the opportunities to become the CEO of YOU.

Insightful podcast appearances by the authors, Laura and Kristina:

Reads on the horrible job market

I am rooting for you! Don’t forget to make time and space to create things you love.
