It's a Barbie (movie marketing) world

Yes, I have been Barbie (movie) Influenced, and I am not even mad about it. Let’s talk about the mega marketing machine behind the movie, because it is a case study all its own.

Yes, I have been Barbie (movie) Influenced, and I am not even mad about it. Frankly, I look forward to any movie written and directed by the brilliant Greta Gerwig. Bring on the summer blockbusters, I am ready for Indiana Jones, Oppenheimer and Mission Impossible too. I freaking love movies of all variety. Now onto that Barbie marketing and public relations team that must be exhausted….

Given this is a big moment for Mattel, they have doubled down on all manner of advertising, collaborations, merchandise, activations, pop ups and more. Here are just a couple of fantastic roundups:

You can’t escape the ads, interviews, merch and activations which include: Selfie Generator, Barbie Dream House Airbnb, Designed roller blades, pink Xbox console, Forza Horizon 5 Barbie & Ken car game, rugs from@the Ruggable x Barbie, Barbie the Movie x Aqua collab, jewelry Alex and Ani x Barbie collection, Hally x Barbie pink hair set, bright pink toothbrush from Moon, Barbie x Kitsch fashionable hair accessories, Tangle Teezer x Barbie hairbrush, Chi x Barbie haircare tools, Barbie workout outfit from Show Me Your Mumu, candle collab, Dog clothes, more actual Barbie clothes, Forever 21 x Barbie collab, Aldo Barbie shoos, Limited Edition Lunchbox and Thermos Set, '90s-themed makeup collab with NYX , Progressive house and car insurance ads, HGTV Barbie home design challenge, OPI x Barbie nail polish, Barbie pink puffy-sleeved jacket from Gap, a pink lemonade from Barbie x Swoon, Dragon Glassware collab, Barbie, the Barbie cruise, many pop ups including New York's Malibu Barbie Cafe, house, Architectural Digest house tour of Barbie's Dreamhouse, Hot Wheels cars, and the hotel floor turned into a Barbie set for the press junkets. And this is not even all of it, on top of the many interviews, billboards, bus stop posters and MORE! Whew. I’m tried just looking at this, especially as I work in the world of communications, marketing, and media. This is a case study of its own.

For funsies, I will leave it on this hilarious new musical number “I’m just Ken” from Ken himself, aka Ryan Gosling. Enjoy!
